Tufwell’s Twelve Days of Glassmas: Part 1

Thursday 12th December, 2019

This time of year is traditionally one of giving, be it gifts, hospitality or goodwill. And so, without further ado, we present to you part one of Tufwell’s Twelve Days of Glassmas! On the first day of Glassmas, Tufwell gave to me…

1. Fire-rated glass

Fire-rated glass is a must for your commercial space. This safety glass can withstand high temperatures and prolonged exposure to heat; keeping flames and smoke from spreading in the event of a fire. Tufwell can provide the three main types of fire-rated glass: tempered fire glass, ceramic fire glass and intumescent laminated glass; and advise on which product is right for your business.

2. Toughened glass

Toughened, or tempered glass is a safety glass that is up to five times as strong as ordinary glass and can withstand greater impact. This durability makes it a cost-effective and popular choice in a range of commercial settings. Toughened glass is extremely versatile and is most commonly used in glass doors, glass balustrades and glass partitions. Whatever your glass needs, tempered glass is tough enough for the job.

3. Laminated glass

Laminated glass is a safety glass made of two pieces of thick ordinary glass sandwiched around a plastic interlayer. If broken or punctured, laminated glass will stay intact because of its interlayer, which holds together any loose shards of glass whilst preventing cracks from passing from one side of the laminate to the other. Laminated glass has countless applications and is especially popular for use in shop fronts, skylights, glass doors and windows.

4. Smart glass

An essential for the modern office, smart glass, or liquid crystal glass allows you to switch between transparency and translucency at the flick of a switch. Designed to control the level of sunlight and heat entering a building, smart glass windows can significantly reduce energy consumption. Smart glass also offers privacy on demand, which can be useful for glass partitioning in large office areas, conference rooms, hospitality and medical settings.

5. Shaped glass

Tufwell offers a full Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) shaping service for shaped glass products, ideal for use with bespoke glass designs. Whether you require customised glass furniture, or a glass balustrade curved to fit a staircase, Tufwell can use CNC technology to customise these individual glass pieces to your specification in finish, size and colour.

6. Decorative glass

Painted glass products can add style and colour to your commercial space. Ideal as a decorative glass product, painted glass can provide the ‘wow’ factor in any space and is particularly effective for use in kitchen glass splashbacks. Mirror glass products can make a stunning centrepiece to any studio or gym. Mirrored walls are also a good way of increasing the visual size of rooms such as bathrooms.
